Australia to invest $2.2b for upgrades in hospitals and health facilities

Of this, about $660m (A$1b) will be allotted towards rural and regional health capital works.

The Australian government has announced its plans to invest $2.2b (A$3.4b) in upgrading hospitals and health facilities across the state of New South Wales (NSW).

A part of the investment includes an allocation of around $660m (A$1b) towards rural and regional health capital work projects.

“By investing in critical health infrastructure, we will deliver on our promise to provide better healthcare in NSW, by expanding health services in these growing communities, so patients can access the best medical treatments close to home,” Health Minister, Ryan Park, said.

As part of the 2024-25 NSW Budget, the investment aims to deliver support for ongoing redevelopments at Eurobodalla, Temora, Liverpool, Moree, Nepean, Cessnock, and Shellharbour Hospitals.

In line with this, the government will provide a further $31.5m (A$47.8m) funding in the upgraded Ryde Hospital, bringing the total investment in its redevelopment to approximately $348m (A$526.8m).

Meanwhile, the Port Macquarie Hospital in the Mid North Coast will receive a $175m (A$265m) funding for upgraded clinical services, including emergency and maternity care.
