Abu Dhabi to establish Centre of Excellence for rare diseases

The upcoming hub will focus on haematology, neurology, and metabolic disorders.

Abu Dhabi’s Department of Health (DoH), in collaboration with AstraZeneca, is set to unveil a Centre of Excellence (CoE) that will focus on patients impacted by rare diseases.

According to the DoH, the upcoming CoE will serve as a hub for comprehensive diagnosis, treatment, research education, and patient care whilst focusing on haematology, neurology, and metabolic disorders.

Moreover, both organisations aim to improve diagnostic processes and emphasise advanced early detection processes and technology innovation for managing rare diseases.

“Abu Dhabi has long realised the importance of private-public dialogue to address global challenges and advance healthcare for all,” Asma Ibrahim Al Mannaei, DOH Executive Director of the Research and Innovation Centre, said.

Partnership is a driving force at the Department of Health, and our latest with AstraZeneca will allow us to deliver on our promise to spearhead research and innovation enabling a healthier future for those impacted by rare disease, locally, regionally and beyond,” Al Mannaei added.

Furthermore, the collaboration plans to develop educational programmes and training initiatives for healthcare professionals and patients to increase awareness and understanding of specific rare diseases.
