Australia invests $3.3m on research for enhanced telehealth experience

Six research projects will each receive nearly $657,000 (U$1m) to identify how the service can be used effectively.

The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) has invested $3.3m (A$5m) in research to ensure the quality and safety of telehealth in Australia.

A total of six research projects from Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, and the ACT will each receive almost $657,000 (AU$1m) to identify how telehealth can be used effectively and appropriately.

The projects will focus on developing a solid evidence base to inform future health policy whilst supporting health practitioners and service providers to enhance their current telehealth services.

“Ensuring the quality and safety of Australia’s national telehealth services through targeted projects, such as those announced today, will help to optimise and future-proof the system.” Steve Wesselingh, CEO of NHMRC, said.

“These projects will be able to provide us with a strong evidence base for telehealth services, and how they can be optimised to provide significant improvements to health at both an individual and population level,” Wesselingh added.
