Saving the future by caring for the children

Samitivej Children’s Hospital awarded at Healthcare Asia Awards

Caring for newborns and children has always needed extra care and a lot of expertise, as the margins for error are either small or do not exist at all. Being able to attend to the needs of children has been the focus of Samitivej Children’s Hospital, catering to the needs of both domestic and international child patients, and for their efforts, they were awarded the Specialty Hospital of the Year - Thailand at the Healthcare Asia Awards 2022.

The awards programme recognises remarkable performances or cutting-edge development from Healthcare organisations across Asia, and Samitivej Children’s Hospital stood out from their competition thanks to high survival rates, success rates, and empathic scores of staff members that prove their capabilities as well as their dedication towards providing the best care for their patients.

Striving for developing the treatment and healthcare services, Samitivej Children’s Hospital follows a handful of excellences, such as clinical excellence, service excellence, people excellence, innovation excellence, and trust, all of which play a part in how Samitivej delivers the best care in their field.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Bone Marrow Transplantation, Pediatric Surgery including Conventional and Laparoscopic Surgery, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) including Pediatric Referral, and both ground and air ambulance services make up the clinical excellence focus of Samitivej. Meanwhile, emphasising service with empathy and creating excellent services initiated by our doctors and staff members make up the core of their service excellence initiative.

Samitivej began a collaboration with Doernbecher Children's Hospital at Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) in the United States back in 2014 to enhance the doctors’ and nurses’ capability in the areas of NICU, PICU, and Pediatric Emergency, whilst putting an emphasis on the wellbeing of children battling illnesses in the hospital has led to the establishment of the Child Life Program along with the introduction of Laparoscopic Surgery.

Working in partnership with Takatsuki General Hospital in Japan since 2015, Samitivej has been engaged in an exchange program that aims to enhance professional knowledge in the areas of Newborn and Premature baby care.

For People Engagement, we have initiated programmes to improve the quality of life of doctors and staff members as it is believed that if our hospital members are happy, they will render the best quality of care for our patients and their families. To adjust and adapt to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Samitivej introduced the TytoCare device that helps doctors diagnose and facilitate consultations via a 24-hour online service called Samitivej Virtual Hospital Application, as well as other services such as the Samitivej Prompt, Samitivej Pace Application that allows family members to monitor a patient’s condition remotely, whether at home or from anywhere.

As a healthcare provider, Samitivej strives to support communities with their corporate social responsibility (CSR) with many projects aimed at communities such as the Samitivej New Life Fund which aims to serve the underprivileged children through accessible high quality surgical treatments such as heart surgery, Scoliosis Correction Surgery, and Bone Marrow Transplantation. Another initiative from Samitivej is the Empower Disable Project which aims to promote and improve the quality of life for disabled children.
