Work on new palliative care facilities progress in Western Sydney

Construction is expected to begin next year.

The planning and design of new palliative care units at Westmead and Nepean hospitals in western Sydney have been completed, according to the Australian government in New South Wales.

The palliative care unit at the Westmead Hospital will be located within an extension of the Clinical Acute Services building. It will feature bedrooms with ensuites, communal spaces, a multi-faith room, and access to an outdoor area.

Meanwhile, the Nepean Hospital unit will be situated on the top floor of the new Stage 2 Redevelopment building. It will include bedrooms with ensuites, a rooftop courtyard, and shared family-friendly spaces.

The completion of the design phase enables the start of the tender process to appoint a building contractor, with construction expected to begin next year.
