Virtual Hospital pilot begins in Victoria, Australia
The service initially focuses on patients with heart failure and post-cardiac care.
Victoria's Virtual Hospital pilot launched on 1 December, with an initial focus on patients with heart failure and post-cardiac care, according to the Australian Government.
Patients will be cared for at home through virtual consultations, supported by wearable devices to monitor vital signs. Care will be delivered by a multidisciplinary team of doctors, nurses, and pharmacists.
They will also have access to medications at home and follow-up care through specialist appointments or community services.
The six-month initiative is expected to support over 250 patients who would otherwise require admission to a hospital ward.
The pilot will expand to offer more services in the coming months.
