Tamworth Hospital unveils first look of expanded Nioka Palliative Care Unit

The expansion doubles the number of dedicated palliative care beds.

The community has received its first look at the expanded Nioka Palliative Care unit at Tamworth Hospital, part of the government’s $60.7m (A$93m) “End of Life Care” programme.

The expansion will extend the existing Nioka facility to the northeastern corner of the main hospital building, increasing the number of dedicated palliative care beds from six to twelve.

The unit will also feature six new bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, shared staff areas, and flexible outdoor spaces.

Construction timelines will be determined once the detailed design phase is completed and a builder is appointed. Further consultation will continue as planning for the unit progresses.

A$1 = $0.65
