SVHM adopts automated track system for pathology
The system moves samples using small motorised carriers known as “CARs”.
Australia’s St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne (SVHM) has installed a new automated pathology track system.
“We now have the capacity to conduct preanalytical and postanalytical steps automatically using the GLP track software,” said Christina Trambas, SVHM’s Medical Director of Pathology.
The Abott Diagnostics GLP system transports samples around the laboratory through a track using small motorised carriers known as “CARs”.
The CARs move samples to and from centrifuges, de-capping and recapping robots, aliquoting robots, analysers, output modules, and finally, refrigerated storage.
“This hi-tech programming also has the ability to automatically route the specimens to particular analyser workstations and areas of the lab,” Trambas added.
