Siriraj Hospital expands medical care for advanced cancer treatment
The MR LINAC in SiRO has treated over 200 patients since its installation in October 2020.
Siriraj Hospital has improved its medical care with new equipment – particularly the Magnetic Resonance Linear Accelerator (MR LINAC) – and adding an oncology team for in-house cancer treatments.
The Siriraj Center of Radiation Oncology (SiRO) is the first medical institution in Thailand and Southeast Asia to utilise the UNITY® 1.5T MRI 7MV-Linear accelerator.
The MR LINAC system provides advanced precision radiotherapy capabilities, widening the treatment options for patients in Thailand. The technology uses a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner and a linear accelerator for enhanced control over radiation delivery for high-definition imaging and tumour targeting.

Through MR LINAC, SiRO has treated over 400 patients since its operations in October 2020, benefiting both Thai and foreign patients.
“This innovation gives us the advanced capabilities to visualize and adapt treatment plans in real-time, offering pinpoint precision for each patient's treatment, marking a significant stride forward in the battle against cancer,” Associate Professor Pittaya Dankulchai, Head of Radiotherapy Division, Department of Radiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, said.
Furthermore, Siriraj Hospital has advanced cancer research through Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR)-T cell therapy, treating ailments like acute lymphoblastic leukemia and multiple myeloma.
