Severe asthma cases to reach 1.89 million in eight major markets by 2033
The rise is attributed to population growth and low asthma-related mortality.
The 12-month diagnosed prevalent cases of severe asthma across eight major markets (8MM) are projected to increase at an annual growth rate (AGR) of 0.49%, rising from 1.81 million in 2023 to 1.89 million by 2033, according to GlobalData.
Lifetime diagnosed prevalent cases are also expected to rise, increasing at an AGR of 0.30% to 3.39 million cases in 2033.
The US is expected to have the highest number of 12-month diagnosed severe asthma cases in the 8MM during the forecast period, at approximately 852,000, whilst Japan is projected to have the fewest, with around 24,000.
This rise is attributed to population growth and low asthma-related mortality, said Molly Moran, Senior Epidemiologist at GlobalData.
“Since severe asthma is often a life-long disease, increasing population will lead to an increased burden of severe asthma,” Moran said.
