Queen Elizabeth Hospital expands with $210m Kangkanthi building
The establishment features a 46-treatment bay emergency department.
Queen Elizabeth Hospital has expanded with a new $210m (A$314m) five-storey clinical services building, increasing South Australia’s hospital system by 67 beds.
The Kangkanthi building, which means “to care” in the Kaurna Language, houses 52 inpatient beds, a 14-bed intensive care unit, and a 46-treatment bay emergency department.
The facility is also equipped with a new magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine, two computed tomography (CT) scanners, and a cardiac catheter laboratory and procedural suite for expanded medical imaging and pathology services.
Meanwhile, its rehabilitation facility is set to provide inpatient general rehabilitation services for those recovering from a stroke, burns, an amputation, or orthopaedic concerns.
Furthermore, the building features 12 operating theatres and a new central sterilisation service for theatre instruments.
