PCR test to spot monkeypox in SEA launched at iGene Laboratory
Results can be out within four hours of sample processing.
iGene Laboratory, a subsidiary of Singapore-based INEX Innovate Limited, set up a research-use-only polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test to detect monkeypox in the Southeast Asia region.
This test targets two specific conservative regions of the virus in addition to internal control by the use of real-time PCR, the same procedure used for COVID-19 testing.
The test is only available for research use and can produce results within four hours of sample processing.
According to iGene Laboratory CEO Kane Black, the launch of monkeypox testing will support the company’s PCR infectious disease portfolio and boost its position in the field.
There were three imported monkeypox cases and one local case of monkeypox in Singapore as of 8 July.
