NSW Ambulance trials drones for aeromedical, search and rescue operations
The devices provide real-time aerial surveillance.
NSW Ambulance has trialled the use of drones to support its aeromedical and special operations capabilities during search and rescue missions.
The two-month Remotely Piloted Aeromedical Clinical Systems (RPACS) trial, utilised drones that provide real-time aerial surveillance, said the Australian government.
The RPACS drones feature thermal imaging, high-intensity searchlights, the ability to carry essential items, live-streaming, and a loudspeaker to communicate with patients.
Seven critical care paramedics and special operations team paramedics were trained to operate, maintain and deploy RPACS drones as part of search and rescue missions.
Meanwhile, a full evaluation of the trial is currently underway to assess operational performance, environmental sustainability, and the potential long-term benefits of integrating drone technology.
