New Zealand health ministry to review ManageMyHealth breach

The breach affected 6–7% of the portal’s 1.8 million ‘My Health Documents’ users.

New Zealand’s Health Minister Simeon Brown has commissioned the Ministry of Health to review the response to a cybersecurity breach affecting the ManageMyHealth patient portal.

The incident affected 6–7% of the portal’s 1.8 million registered users of the ‘My Health Documents’ module, ManageMyHealth said in a 6 January announcement.

Brown has requested that the review begin no later than 30 January.

“In the meantime, I expect the Ministry to develop Terms of Reference, in consultation with the Government Chief Digital Officer and the National Cyber Security Centre, and a timeline for the review process,” he added.

Health New Zealand reported that its own systems were not affected and is coordinating with primary care providers through General Practice New Zealand to assess the impact on patients and practices.

General practices remain open and continue providing services.
