New digital platform to boost breast cancer screening in New Zealand

The Te Puna system replaces an ageing legacy database.

Around 135,000 women across New Zealand who are eligible but not enrolled for breast cancer screening are expected to benefit from the national rollout of a new digital platform, said Health Minister Simeon Brown.

The Te Puna system replaces an ageing legacy database to simplify the process of enrolling, booking, and managing breast screening.

The platform allows individuals to book or reschedule appointments through a secure personalised link or QR code sent by text message, email, or letter.

“We’re also delivering on our commitment to extend breast screening to women aged 70 to 74, with rollout of the expansion beginning later this year,” Brown said.

The platform began rolling out in February and is now live nationwide.
