Medical practitioners accept new industrial agreement in Western Australia

The deal offers an immediate 4.75% salary increase, followed by a 3.75% rise in 2025 and 3% in 2026. 

Medical practitioners in the Western Australian health system have accepted terms for a new industrial agreement, with 86% of Australian Medical Association (WA) members voting in support of the three-year deal, the government said.

The deal includes an immediate 4.75% salary increase, followed by a 3.75% rise in 2025 and 3% in 2026. 

The agreement also introduced enhanced employment conditions, including recognising general practitioners and rural generalists as specialists, improving overtime provisions for trainee doctors, and reforming rostering practices.

Meanwhile, over 5,000 hospital support workers have accepted a salary offer from the state government as part of negotiations for a replacement industrial agreement.

Under this deal, support workers will receive a $44 (A$65) per week wage increase each year over a three-year term. 

It will also include enhanced shift penalties and expanded access to study leave to improve worker retention and career development within the WA public hospital system.

The agreements were reached in line with the government’s principles-based Wages Policy, introduced in December 2023.
