KPJ-Novo Nordisk programme targets metabolic crisis
The programme is expected to be introduced at 10 KPJ hospitals.
KPJ Healthcare Berhad and Novo Nordisk Malaysia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aiming to support people living with obesity and related conditions.
It will develop the KPJ Metabolic & Weight Management Programme, a hospital-based model designed to provide patients with a specialist-led multidisciplinary care.
According to Malaysia’s Health Ministry, one in two Malaysians is living with obesity, and 15.6% of Malaysian adults are living with diabetes.
Obesity is also estimated to cost the country more than $16.18b (RM64b) annually through healthcare expenditure, productivity losses and premature mortality
In the first phase, the programme is expected to be introduced at 10 KPJ hospitals, with phased expansion planned for 12 months.
This phase will include initial assessment, body composition screening, metabolic risk review, personalised treatment planning, behavioural counselling, and follow-up scheduling.
