Hervey Bay Hospital named pilot site for new statewide telestroke service

The service will provide time-critical specialist assessment, diagnosis, and stroke treatment.

The Australian government has announced that Hervey Bay Hospital will serve as the pilot site for the new Queensland telestroke service.

The service will provide time-critical specialist assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for stroke patients, with the hospital’s staff currently undergoing training ahead of its launch.

In line with this, additional hospitals will join the service from 2025 as training expands across each site.

According to the government, the Queensland telestroke service aligns with similar models across the country to foster research collaboration aimed at improving access to acute stroke treatment in rural and regional areas.
