Gleneagles Hospital emergency wing to treat infections, traffic injuries
The department is a specialised 19-bed facility.
Gleneagles Hospital Chennai inaugurated its emergency wing, a facility for rapid treatment with a door-to-decision time of under 30 minutes.
The new emergency department (ED) is a specialised 19-bed facility designed for rapid triage and treatment, built to manage a high volume of acute cases with speed and precision, the hospital said.
It comprises 18 standard acute care beds and one dedicated isolation bed to strengthen infection control and enable management of contagious emergencies, including sepsis and
airborne infections, it added.
It is also supported by on-site diagnostics such as portable bedside X-ray for immediate chest, extremity and abdominal imaging without patient transport, and Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) for real-time bedside assessment.
The Gleneagles facility was also inaugurated with the Tambaram city police, which said that the facility can ensure rapid emergency care for traffic injuries.
Chennai recorded 2,016 accidents, followed by Tambaram with 995, said Samay Singh Meena, deputy commissioner of the city police.
Gleneagles Hospital Chennai is part of the Fortis Healthcare Network.
