CMUH launches platform for acute ischemic stroke treatments
The AISIA platform can diagnose acute ischemic stroke within 90 seconds.
The Neurology Department of China Medical University Hospital (CMUH) - Taiwan, in cooperation with the AI Center at CMUH, has launched the Artificial Intelligence for Stroke Image Analysis (AISIA) platform.
The platform aims to diagnose acute ischemic stroke within 90 seconds to assist doctors for quick medical decisions.
Part of its launch, AISIA contains the “NCCT-based Ischemic Stroke Detection System (AISIA-NCCT)” and the “Brain CT Perfusion Analysis System (AISIA-CTP)” models, both innovations by the AI Center at CMUH.

The two analyse NCCT and CTP images to identify acute ischemic stroke, ischemic core and penumbra, serving to assist physicians in decision-making measures for acute ischemic stroke management.
In addition, the AISIA-NCCT applies deep learning to conduct AI model training with the medical information of over 400 patients. The model has achieved over 92.5% accuracy, 100% sensitivity, and 89.7% specificity in detecting brain ischemia greater than 70 millilitres.
“Stroke presents in two forms: ischemic (80%) and hemorrhagic (20%). Timely identification of acute ischemic stroke and determination of salvageable area is vital to satisfactory treatment and recovery,” Dr. Ming-Kuei Lu, Neurologist of CMUH, said.
