China’s health literacy rises to 29.7% in 2023

Health literacy for urban and rural residents was at 33.25% and 26.23%, respectively.

Health literacy in China grew to 29.7% in 2023, up by 1.92 percentage points from the previous year.

It serves as a key indicator for economic and social development, and people's health level, the National Health Commission said, citing a report by Xinhua.

Residents from urban areas recorded a health literacy rate of 33.25%, reflecting a 1.31 increase from 2022.

Meanwhile, health literacy for residents living in rural areas was at 26.23%, rising by 2.45 percentage points.

Health literacy is monitored based on awareness of health-related problems, such as safety and first-aid, medical care, and chronic and infectious disease prevention and control.
