Australian gov’t to unveil permanent medical respite centre in Carlisle
The facility will provide on-site, post-acute medical care.
The Australian government has announced the purchase of a former aged care home in Carlisle to establish a permanent Medical Respite Centre.
The facility will provide on-site, post-acute medical care for individuals experiencing homelessness after hospital presentations or admissions. It will also accommodate wheelchair-bound patients and women who have experienced gender-based violence.
The 20-bed centre will be run by a consortium of non-government organisations, including Homeless Healthcare, Ruah Community Services, and Uniting WA. It will also be managed by the East Metropolitan Health Service.
The centre will retain its current name, Ellison House.
