Australian gov’t to ban public-private partnerships in NSW acute hospitals

The legislation will apply to future governments who seek a privatisation agenda.

The Australian government has introduced legislation to prohibit future public-private partnerships (PPPs) imposed on acute hospitals in New South Wales.

The Health Services Amendment (PPP Prohibition) Bill 2025 (NSW) will prevent governments from entering into a Northern Beaches-style arrangement to build or operate an acute public hospital.

If passed, the legislation will apply to future governments who seek to pursue a privatisation agenda.

Health Minister Ryan Park will present the bill in the NSW Legislative Assembly as an amendment to the Health Services Act 1997 (NSW).
