Australia to unveil $18m geriatric ward in Adelaide's south

The ward caters to patients aged 65 and above.

The Australian government is set to launch a new $18m (A$26m) geriatric ward at the Repat Health Precinct in Adelaide's southern suburbs.

The new ward, Tarin Kowt, will cater to patients aged 65 and above, providing a purpose-built space for hospital-based specialist geriatric rehabilitation services

Meanwhile, the expansion will increase the capacity of the existing Geriatric Evaluation and Management (GEM) unit from 24 to 50 beds over the next two months.

The new geriatric ward is part of a $345.4m (A$498m) investment by the government to upgrade Flinders Medical Centre and the Repat to expand healthcare access across the area.
