Australia introduces new app for cardiac arrest emergency response

It includes an alert feature for responders once an emergency call is made.

The Australian government, through a partnership with GoodSAM, has introduced an app for an enhanced emergency response to cardiac arrest cases in Tasmania.

“This new partnership allows people and organisations to register their defibrillators with the GoodSAM app, providing community first responders with access to the tools to save lives,” Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Guy Barnett, said.

The initiative is aligned with the government’s $313.8m (A$476m) 10-year Digital Health Transformation and the “Long-Term Plan for Healthcare in Tasmania 2040.”

Once an emergency call is made to triple zero (000), the app features an alert system for nearby responders whilst providing the patient’s location and closest publicly accessible defibrillator.

In line with this, GoodSAM maintains a register of responders prepared to receive a mobile phone alert if a cardiac arrest occurs near their area.
