Australia forms expert panel to assess $500m genomic research

Health system and genomic experts will look into measures to boost research mission funding.

The Australian Government assigned a new expert advisory panel for the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF), involving its new $500.1m initiative.

The health system and genomic experts will look into the investments under the MRFF’s Genomics Health Futures Mission to improve the testing and diagnosis for diseases, offer personalised treatment options for better health outcomes, and cut unnecessary interventions and health costs.

The panel will also conduct an advisory role on the mission’s priorities through updating the established Roadmap and Implementation Plan for genomics research.

Implemented in December 2023, the Genomics Health Futures Mission assists the Minister for Health and Aged Care in formulating strategic priorities for research investments, to bolster healthcare and health outcomes for individuals through thorough research and mission funding.
