Australia to establish new hospital in North Canberra

The facility will feature additional treatment spaces and an expanded emergency department.

Australia is set to deliver a new $666m (A$1b) hospital on the North Canberra Hospital campus in Bruce, replacing an ageing infrastructure.

According to Health Minister, Rachel Stephen-Smith, the facility will have more treatment spaces, a bigger emergency department, and advanced equipment for the workforce.

“Most importantly, it will provide greater capacity for our health care system and ensure Canberrans can continue to access quality public healthcare across the Australia Capital Territory (ACT) as our population grows and health needs change,” Stephen-Smith said.

Meanwhile, a new Critical Services building at the Canberra Hospital will be opening in August.

The building is set to feature a new emergency department, additional operating theatres, and an intensive care unit.
