Abu Dhabi launches bioethics guidelines for healthcare workforce

The new set addresses areas, such as women’s health, medical tourism, and clinical research.

Abu Dhabi’s Department of Health (DoH) has published new bioethics guidelines for the healthcare workforce to standardise ethical practices across the sector.

The guidelines address a range of ethical considerations, including responsibilities towards community well-being, women’s health, organ donation and transplant, mental healthcare, medical tourism, clinical research, and the use of innovative medicines.

Moreover, they are designed to provide a framework for the ethical adoption of innovations such as artificial intelligence, genomics, and personalised medicine, whilst also improving emergency and crisis preparedness.

The guidelines build on the existing Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct for Health Professionals issued by the federal Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) in 2017 and were developed in partnership with the UAE MOHAP and the Sharjah Health Authority (SHA).
