CooperVision unites experts to combat childhood myopia
Asia-Pacific symposium highlights urgency of pediatric myopia crisis and cross-border collaboration.
CooperVision has intensified its campaign against the growing pediatric myopia epidemic in Asia Pacific, convening leading eye care professionals at its 5th Asia-Pacific Myopia Management Symposium (APMMS) in Hong Kong. Held in partnership with global and regional optometry bodies, the event was supported by localised “Regional Connect” editions in Taiwan, Korea, Mainland China, and Singapore.
Themed “Myopia Control in Children: Meeting the Challenge Together,” the 2025 symposium drew hundreds of in-person and virtual participants, focusing on emerging treatment strategies, clinical guidelines, and the real-world application of myopia management tools.
“We wanted to emphasise the power of collective action, bringing ECPs together with a shared goal of tackling the myopia epidemic,” said Dr. Dora Lui, General Manager of CooperVision Taiwan and Hong Kong.
Key sessions addressed long-term risks of untreated myopia—including retinal detachment—while introducing practical tools like a child-friendly contact lens applicator. Panel discussions examined gaps in treatment accessibility, patient engagement, and data on clinical efficacy.
“APMMS 2025 not only deepened our understanding of myopia, but also reinforced the power of collaboration,” said Queenie Yip, President of the Hong Kong Association of Private Practice Optometrists.
By expanding to local markets, CooperVision is equipping more practitioners with context-specific insights. “It provided a much-needed platform for connection and discovery of new strategies,” added Dr. Bruce Chin, President of the Hong Kong Society of Professional Optometrists.
