Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute and Research Center receives accolades at Healthcare Asia Awards 2025
It was recognised as the Tertiary Hospital of the Year - Pakistan and the Specialty Hospital of the Year - Pakistan.
Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute and Research Center (PKLI&RC) was honoured with the Tertiary Hospital of the Year - Pakistan and the Specialty Hospital of the Year - Pakistan accolades at the coveted Healthcare Asia Awards 2025 for its remarkable achievements as a leading transplant centre and academic institution for sub-specialty training.
Operating as a tertiary care hospital, PKLI&RC addresses Pakistan’s healthcare challenges, providing specialised care for liver and kidney diseases, medical education, and research. As a public sector institution, it offers subsidised treatment to 80% of patients based on financial needs, ensuring equal access regardless of age, gender, religion, or disability.
The healthcare facility has also revolutionised organ transplantation in Pakistan. It has performed 259 liver and 272 kidney transplants in 2024, including paired kidney exchanges and simultaneous liver-kidney transplants.
Moreover, it leads in healthcare technology, becoming the first public sector hospital in the area to launch a robotic surgery programme in urology, liver surgery, and gynaecology, as well as having two interventional radiology suites catering to a large number of patients.
In view of the severe burden of liver and kidney diseases in Pakistan, PKLI&RC is contributing to combat the disease burden by establishing 18 dedicated district filter clinics across Punjab, the largest province, having a population of over 110 million people. Operating on a hub-and-spoke model, these filter clinics provide free screening and treatment for Hepatitis B & C, along with tele-consultations in gastroenterology, nephrology, and urology.
At the same time, community outreach programmes extend education and screening to underserved populations, ensuring broader healthcare accessibility.
PKLI&RC also became the first public sector hospital in South Asia and Pakistan to achieve Joint Commission International accreditation, solidifying its high-quality patient care and improved outcomes.
Healthcare Asia Awards honours exceptional hospitals across the region that have redefined the standards of excellence in the industry through their innovative solutions and substantial contributions to communities.
