Medical Center Manila, Inc - ManilaMed wins at Healthcare Asia Awards 2026
The hospital advances clinical innovation and empowers its people to lead meaningful change.
Medical Center Manila, Inc – ManilaMed earned two major honours at the Healthcare Asia Awards 2026, receiving Clinical Service Initiative of the Year - Philippines and Employee Engagement of the Year - Philippines. The recognition highlights the hospital’s commitment to advancing clinical innovation whilst nurturing a values-driven workplace culture that empowers its people to lead meaningful change.
A flagship achievement is the Pulmonary Embolism Response Team (PERT), the first of its kind in the Philippines, launched in October 2024 to address the urgent challenge of delayed pulmonary embolism diagnosis and treatment. As the third leading cause of cardiovascular death globally, pulmonary embolism demands rapid, coordinated intervention. ManilaMed’s multidisciplinary team activates immediately once the condition is suspected, enabling real-time specialist discussions that accelerate clinical decisions and streamline treatment pathways.
Supporting the initiative is a 24/7 standby catheterisation laboratory equipped with the Penumbra Indigo Aspiration System, allowing emergency percutaneous mechanical thrombectomy for acute cases. Standardised protocols, continuous training, and nurse-led coordination ensure every PERT activation is managed with speed and precision. The centre also receives referrals from across Metro Manila and neighbouring provinces, expanding access to life-saving intervention. Performance monitoring tracks door-to-treatment times, mortality, length of stay, and registry participation.
Since its launch, the programme has significantly reduced treatment delays and improved early survival outcomes. ManilaMed now leads the Pulmonary Embolism Response Team Local Alliance Study, a national registry promoting research, shared learning, and the standardisation of pulmonary embolism care across the country.
Alongside clinical innovation, ManilaMed was also recognised for strengthening its internal culture through the ManilaMed Ambassadors Program, a values-driven initiative that empowers employees to shape engagement and organisational identity. Selected ambassadors, chosen for exemplifying the hospital’s S.T.O.R.I.E.S values —Sensitivity, Teamwork, Openness, Respect, Integrity, Excellence, and Social Responsiveness— lead staff activities, community outreach, and internal campaigns that strengthen belonging and collaboration.
The programme has delivered measurable results: employee attrition declined from 2.86% in 2022 to 1.73% in 2025, whilst participation in corporate social responsibility and engagement activities increased markedly. ManilaMed also earned Great Place to Work certification in 2025, reinforcing its reputation as a workplace where people feel valued and inspired to serve patients with compassion and excellence, every day in practice and purpose.
