Hologic Taiwan Ltd. wins at Healthcare Asia Medtech Awards 2026
The mobile 3D mammography initiative expands access and supports earlier detection across Taiwan.
Hologic Taiwan Ltd. won the Screening Program Innovation Award - Taiwan in the Healthcare Asia Medtech Awards 2026 for its initiative that promotes earlier breast cancer screening and highlights the benefits of 3D mammography.
The programme supports Taiwan’s broader push to reduce cancer morbidity by 30% by 2030 under the Healthy Taiwan initiative. With breast cancer screening rates remaining below 40% nationwide, the need for improved access and stronger public awareness became critical. Hologic Taiwan Ltd. responded by introducing a scalable screening programme that combines mobile mammography services with education and policy engagement.
A key part of the programme is the integration of 3D tomosynthesis into a mobile mammography bus model. The initiative builds on Taiwan’s expanded government-funded screening policy that now covers women aged 40 to 74. Under the programme structure, standard screenings receive a fixed reimbursement of NT$1,245, whilst participants also have the option to self-pay for 3D mammography. This hybrid approach increases access to advanced imaging whilst demonstrating its clinical value in real-world settings.
Two screening seminars take place on a health-check bus equipped with 3D mammography technology. The sessions screen 100 women and highlight how mobile services support efficient and accessible breast cancer detection.
Hologic Taiwan Ltd. also takes a central role in coordinating the initiative, designing programme content that explains the differences between 2D and 3D mammography and organising alignment meetings with partners. Collaboration with the Taiwan Breast Cancer Alliance, hospital radiology departments, executive management teams, and local health check centres ensures operational coordination and clinical support.
The programme also supports policy discussion on the wider adoption of 3D mammography. Stakeholders use the initiative as a pilot that could guide nationwide expansion and inform potential policy review in Taiwan’s Legislative Yuan, including discussions on fixed-amount reimbursement for 3D mammography.
Public education and advocacy remain key elements of the effort. Hologic Taiwan Ltd. engages with expert meetings organised by the Taiwan Breast Cancer Alliance, patient education sessions, and contributions to the American Chamber of Commerce White Paper on cancer. During the screening event, Taiwan Breast Cancer Alliance Chairperson Huang Shu-Fang calls for stronger public education on screening and support for reimbursement of 3D mammography. Mackay Hospital Vice President Dr Chien Ding-Kuo highlights the improved accuracy of 3D imaging in detecting breast cancer earlier and more reliably.
Media coverage from outlets such as Formosa TV News and China Times extends the programme’s reach and raises awareness of breast cancer screening. Through mobile screening, stakeholder collaboration, and public engagement, the initiative provides a repeatable model that aims to increase screening uptake and encourage earlier detection across Taiwan.
