United Kaohsiung develops imaging-free kidney stone screener
It uses only blood and urine test data to identify high-risk patients.
United Kaohsiung AI Medical Technology has introduced iStone, an AI-based screening system designed to detect kidney stones without the need for imaging equipment.
In an interview during Medical Taiwan 2025, Wei Pei-Siou, CEO of United Kaohsiung AI Medical Technology, said, “We can use the simple blood and urine test… and some information from the subject… to evaluate if this subject has a kidney stone.”
Unlike CT scans or ultrasounds, iStone relies solely on data collected through routine health checkups. “Our product has no need for any image device,” Wei said. “For the high risk person, we will suggest they do a more thorough check up, like an image test.”
