Australia opens 2 new Medicare Urgent Care Clinics

The network of clinics is easing pressure on Queensland hospitals.

The Australian Government has opened the Carina-Carindale and Capalaba Medicare Urgent Care Clinics in Queensland to the public, providing walk-in, bulk-billed urgent care seven days a week.

The Carina-Carindale clinic is located on Old Cleveland Road, while Capalaba is on Dollery Road.

The network of Medicare Urgent Care Clinics is easing pressure on hospitals across Queensland, according to an Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) report.

The AIHW report showed that non-urgent presentations to emergency departments fell by 6.6%, and semi-urgent presentations dipped by 3.2%.

These sites join 19 existing Medicare Urgent Care Clinics across the state, with a further five planned for the future.

This expansion aligns with the government’s commitment to provide more Medicare Urgent Care Clinics nationwide, noting that four in five Australians live within a 20-minute drive of a clinic.

“This new data shows Medicare Urgent Care Clinics are taking pressure off Queensland hospitals and ensuring patients can get the care they need when they need it,” said Mark Butler, Minister for Health and Aged Care.
