Fast-tracked programme to boost bed capacity at five NZ hospitals
It is expected to provide a total of 140 additional beds by 2026.
Five of New Zealand’s busiest hospitals will each receive new units as part of the Government’s fast-tracked hospital wards programme, providing a total of 140 additional beds by 2026.
Health Minister Simeon Brown said the wards will be built at Middlemore Hospital, Waikato Hospital, Wellington Regional Hospital, Nelson Hospital, and Hawke’s Bay Hospital.
The wards will be constructed off-site using rapid-build methods and installed on hospital grounds to speed up delivery.
All are expected to open in the second half of 2026.
