GE HealthCare earns double wins at Healthcare Asia Medtech Awards 2025
The company was commended for its Sonic DL™ product and initiatives that strengthen employee engagement as well as community support.
GE HealthCare took home the Cardiology Product Innovation Award - Singapore and Employee Engagement of the Year - Korea accolades at Healthcare Asia Medtech Awards 2025, putting into spotlight its significant efforts as a leading health technology company in AKA (ASEAN, Korea and ANZ).
Sonic DL™
GE HealthCare launched Sonic DL™, an FDA-approved cardiac MRI technology that delivers high-quality heart images in a single heartbeat. This cuts scan times by up to 83% or 12 times faster than traditional methods. It is poised to transform the cardiac care landscape, especially in the ASEAN region where cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) cause 4 million deaths annually.
The AKA region faces urgent healthcare demands. For instance, countries such as Indonesia and Malaysia are seeing a sharp increase in CVDs, whilst the Philippines grapples with over 15,000 cases of congenital heart defects in newborns each year.
With Sonic DL™, medical institutions will benefit from a timely and precise solution for a wide range of patient groups, from general to fetal and arrhythmia cases.
Sonic DL™ delivers fast, high-quality cardiac exams while addressing MRI challenges for patients who cannot hold their breath and those with arrhythmias, using free-breathing respiratory triggers and capturing one heartbeat per slice. It also provides exceptional temporal and spatial resolution, enabling precise valve and wall motion assessments.
The precision of Sonic DL™ allows for earlier detection of blockages or scarring, more comfortable scans for elderly or frail patients, fewer missed diagnoses, and reduced risks of heart failure progression.
Sonic DL™, which stands out thanks to its non-invasive and radiation-free features, has the potential to advance fetal cardiac imaging by capturing clear heart images. This is particularly impactful in ASEAN, where access to prenatal care can be limited.
With its rapid, precision imaging that aligns perfectly with the region's growing demand for advanced diagnostic tools, Sonic DL™ is set to transform ASEAN cardiac care by enabling earlier intervention for general patients, improving fetal health outcomes, and offering effective solutions for arrhythmia management.
Initiatives for employee engagement
GE HealthCare creates a workplace where employees feel valued, engaged, and proud to be part of its team. Amongst the company’s initiatives to do such is its partnership with Garam Children Care Center in Korea. Through the “Village Record Project,” GE HealthCare provided cameras to children and let them explore photography and document their community. This project gave the children a chance to express themselves and allowed the employees to see the direct impact of their contributions.
Over 50 GE HealthCare employees also volunteered at Korea’s Jongno Senior Welfare Center in honour of World Alzheimer’s Day. They participated in the initiative themed “Active Senior, Happier Life,” which focussed on enhancing the quality of life for seniors through dementia prevention.
Moreover, GE HealthCare marked a major milestone with its employees who showcased its cutting-edge technologies, including AI-powered ultrasound and diagnostic devices, at the Korea International Medical & Hospital Equipment Show (KIMES 2024).
Another activity for employees includes “SBU Day,” where each Strategic Business Unit (SBU) hosts quarterly sessions to provide employees with insights into the company’s products and people. This initiative helps employees connect with the technologies they work with and reinforces our commitment to teamwork.
Additionally, GE HealthCare’s Hobby Club recently hosted a popular Coffee Sensory class which let its employees explore the flavours and aromas of various coffee blends. By offering activities like these, the company enhances workplace morale and builds a supportive work culture that encourages employee well-being.
