Australian gov’t unveils $9.4b health budget for Tasmania
The funding supports hospital upgrades, elective surgery, and mental health infrastructure.
The 2025–26 Budget will allocate $9.4b (A$14.5b) to Tasmania’s health system over the next four years, marking a $1.04b (A$1.6b) increase on the previous year’s funding, according to the state government.
Health Minister Jacquie Petrusma said the funding package will support health services across the state, including hospital upgrades, elective surgery, and mental health infrastructure.
“An additional $571m (A$880m) will be invested over the next four years specifically to meet demand for health services,” Petrusma said.
An additional $431m (A$663.5m) over four years will go towards hospital and health infrastructure. This includes ongoing redevelopment work at all four major hospitals and the construction of three new dedicated mental health precincts.
Meanwhile, more than $45.4m (A$70m) has been allocated to implement the new Four Year Elective Surgery Plan 2025–2029.
