Sarawak Infectious Disease Centre join hands with tech firm for research advancement

It will boost research advancement of neglected tropical diseases.

The Sarawak Infectious Disease Centre (SIDC) in East Malaysia signed a memorandum of understanding with Agilent Technologies to improve research for neglected tropical diseases and other upcoming diseases over the next three years.

Under the agreement, there will be a provision for an Agilent 6495 triple quadrupole LC/MS system to boost the research advancement of NTDs and other areas of disease over the next three years.

NTDs are a diverse group of 20 conditions that are mainly prevalent in tropical areas, where they mainly affect impoverished communities and disproportionately affect women and children.

“The Borneo-prevalent NTDs have had higher transmissions in this region where diseases, including dengue and rabies, flourish,” read the joint statement.

Agilent's new technologies will focus on tropical medicines and all aspects of infectious diseases, including biomedical, clinical, and epidemiological whilst enabling rapid response efforts during outbreaks by conducting research and developing diagnostic capabilities.

Agilent's 6495 LC/MS incorporates iFunnel technology to improve signal response. The detection limit will provide higher precision results and faster investigation for optimal research outcomes.
