Supercomputer deployed for AI tool needs in NUHS
The Prescience supercomputer will train AI models that will enhance treatments.
The National University Health System (NUHS) in Singapore can use AI to estimate patient’s hospitalisation days similar to a hotel’s verification of room occupancy rates.
In a statement, the NUHS said a Prescience supercomputer, a first in Singapore’s healthcare sector, was installed in their healthcare system for AI tools management.
“Doctors may also now use locally trained Large Language Models to summarise patients’ case notes with just the click of a button, thus freeing up time for more direct patient care,” read the statement.
The AI system has been fully operational since July 2023 after the NUHS inked a collaborative agreement with the National Supercomputing Centre (NSCC) Singapore in December 2021 to build this supercomputer dedicated to healthcare and medical research.
The medical big data will also researchers to train AI models using multiple compute nodes that can accommodate the large sizes of LLMs, which was previously not possible with single graphical processing unit (GPU) systems.
