St. Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne introduces da Vinci Robotic surgery

It will allow SVHM surgeons to perform minimally-invasive procedures.

St. Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne (SVHM) has introduced the da Vinci robot to its surgical team in a bid to provide patients with a better surgical and recovery experience.

The robotic equipment will allow SVHM surgeons to perform minimally-invasive procedures.

“The use of this technology seeks to provide patients with a better surgical and recovery experience, including in some cases, a reduced hospital stay,” the facility said in a statement.

“Due to its less invasive nature, patients can also experience less scarring and cosmetic impacts following a procedure, due to the equipment’s precision,” it added.

Initially utilised for urology surgeries, SVHM plans to extend the use of the da Vinci robot across various specialties in the coming months.

Associate Professor Ming Wing conducted the first surgery with this technology in January following a thorough setup and training.
