South Korean hospital puts up new system to fast track cancer treatment

The system allows first-time suspected cancer patients to make an appointment.

Ajou University Hospital Cancer Center established a new cancer treatment system that will speed up treatment both for new cancer patients and patients suspected of having cancer.

By using the cancer treatment One-Stop/Fast Track System, patients suspected of having cancer or diagnosed with cancer for the first time can make an appointment for treatment on the date of their choice.

On the first day of the visit, from treatment to the examination will be done through a dedicated track for patients on the same day. Test results and treatment methods are also decided within one week.

"In particular, a cancer specialist coordinator accompanies patients one-on-one throughout the entire process, from making a medical appointment to returning home after treatment and examination on the first visit," read the statement.

The hospital first implemented it for patients who have an appointment for surgery after being diagnosed with five types of cancer: stomach cancer, colon cancer, breast cancer, uterine cancer, and liver cancer, and the scope of implementation is planned to gradually expand.

Cancer tests are also conducted on the earliest schedule.

Director Jang Seok-jun of the Cancer Center said, “To minimize the pain of patients who feel even every second feels long when they are first diagnosed with cancer, we have established a one-stop, fast-track system for cancer treatment to quickly implement optimal treatment."

The South Korean hospital was also the first hospital to implement a cancer accompanying service which allows a cancer specialist coordinator to accompany patients on their visit on a one-on-one basis.
