South Australia to receive $37.2m grant for enhanced Medicare services

An additional Medicare Urgent Care Clinic will be established in the northeast of Adelaide.

The government is set to invest $37.2m (AU$56.3m) in South Australia as part of its initiative to strengthen the state’s Medicare services.

The investment includes an allocation of $28.3m (AU$42.9m) to provide hospital outreach to residential aged care, and a grants scheme to assist complex older patients transition from hospital to community settings.

Furthermore, around $1.2m (AU$1.8m) will be extended to the Comprehensive Palliative Care in Aged Care programme to support new ways of delivering end-of-life care.

Meanwhile, an additional Medicare Urgent Care Clinic will be established to provide fully bulk-billed urgent care services in the northeast of Adelaide.

“Our broader investments in strengthening Medicare will support older South Australians to get better care outside of the hospital system, further reducing the load on local hospitals and freeing up beds for other patients,” Mark Butler, Minister for Health and Aged Care, said.
