South Australia adds 4,001 health workers after 2022 hiring push

Central Adelaide Local Health Network had the biggest staff boost.

South Australia’s health system has added 4,001 full-time equivalent (FTE) health workers, including nurses, doctors, paramedics and allied health staff, since March 2022.

According to a press release, Central Adelaide Local Health Network had the biggest boost with 1,789 additional healthcare workers.

The Southern Adelaide Local Health Network also had a big uplift with 1,044 additional staff.

Similarly, doctor numbers are up 600% at the Eyre & Far North Local Health Network – from three in 2022 to 21 in 2026.

Meanwhile, the Yorke & Northern Local Health Network saw an 850% jump in doctors.

The 2,091 additional nurses recruited are more than six times the 300 pledged as part of the 2022 election, and more than nine times the 100 doctors targeted, the report noted.
