Peninsula University Hospital completes full patient relocation
About 220 patients were transferred into the 12-storey tower on 20 January.
Patients and mental health consumers have completed their move into the new Peninsula University Hospital clinical tower, finishing the transition from the former Frankston Hospital site.
About 220 patients were transferred into the 12-storey tower on 20 January.
Hospital staff coordinated the move throughout the day whilst services continued to operate.
The first surgery and the first birth in the new building both took place before 10 a.m., after the transfer began at 7:30 a.m.
The hospital is now fully operational. The main public entrance is via Gate 2 on Yuille Street, whilst the refurbished Emergency Department can be accessed from Gate 3 on Hastings Road.
Peninsula University Hospital is the new name for Frankston Hospital and is operated by Bayside Health’s Peninsula Care Group.
The name change, announced in July 2025, reflects the hospital’s formal partnership with Monash University and its expanding role in medical training, education, and research.
The redevelopment adds capacity for 130 extra beds and 15 new surgical theatres, along with expanded services for maternity, mental health, oncology, and paediatrics.
The Emergency Department now includes a dedicated paediatric area and a mental health and alcohol and other drugs hub.
A helipad has also been installed on top of the clinical services tower.
