NTUH launches centre for outpatient antibiotic therapy

It integrates cases referred from the ED, outpatient clinics, and inpatient wards.

The National Taiwan University Hospital (NTUH) has inaugurated the Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) centre, enabling patients to receive intravenous antibiotic treatment without hospital admission.

The OPAT centre integrates cases referred from the emergency department, outpatient clinics, and inpatient wards.

In addition, multidisciplinary teams from the hospital’s Departments of Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pharmacy, and Nursing work together at the facility.

It also collaborates with NTUH’s Telehealth Centre to provide an optional telemedicine follow-up service for patients.

The centre was established in response to the National Health Insurance Administration’s outpatient intravenous antibiotic therapy incentive programme, launched in August.
