KKH unveils Children’s Lipid Centre for familial hypercholesterolemia
The centre focuses on early detection and management of FH in children.
Singapore’s KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH) has launched a dedicated clinic for managing familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) in children.
The KKH Children's Lipid Centre aims to proactively identify and manage early childhood FH as part of the Metabolic Health Programme, under the KKH-led MCHRI1.
In line with this, the centre will emphasise individual characteristics and genomics to administer tailored therapy for children with the condition.

Moreover, the centre promotes early screening to limit the risks of lifelong cholesterol build-up and related diseases.
“As the risk of atherosclerosis is cumulative and starts early in life, early detection for children at risk of this genetic condition is crucial,” Fabian Yap, head and senior consultant of KKH’s Endocrinology Service, said.
“For instance, the first two years of life is key to the diagnosis of Homozygous FH (HoFH), a more severe form of FH which is inherited from both parents,” Yap added.
