Juntendo Clinic use robotic therapy for gait disorders

The robotic therapy can treat stroke and spinal cord injury.

Japan-based Juntendo Clinic is now using a therapy robot for treatments of gait disorders such as stroke, spinal cord injury, and Parkinson's disease.

In a statement, Juntendo Clinic said they are the first in Japan to use Lokomat, the gait therapy robot, for treatment of gait disorders.

"By combining an exoskeleton mechanism that allows individual adjustment of each joint of the lower limb (hip, knee, ankle) with a patented dynamic weight-relief system, the system can be tailored to suit individual patients with various gait disorders," read the statement.

"You can practice walking patterns. In addition, by adjusting the speed, load, and support force of the robot, it is possible to set the appropriate intensity, making it possible to provide custom-made walking therapy," it added.

Moving forward, the clinic said it will promote robotic gait treatment using "Lokomat" for gait disorders caused by various diseases such as stroke, spinal cord injury, and Parkinson's disease.
