Australia invests $3.8m in new linear accelerators at Gosford Cancer Centre
The machines can capture 4D imaging and monitor respiratory motion.
The Australian government has invested $3.8m (A$6m) to install two new linear accelerators at Gosford Hospital’s Central Coast Cancer Centre.
The machines can capture 4D imaging for certain tumour sites, monitor respiratory motion, and synchronize radiation with the patient's breathing cycle for more accurate targeting.
This upgrade is expected to improve the speed and effectiveness of radiation therapy for cancer patients, whilst minimising radiation exposure to healthy tissues and reducing side effects.
