Asia medical waste container market to jump 7.6% by 2034 as healthcare infra expands

Infectious diseases, increased hospital admissions, and medical tourism will cause higher waste volumes in the region.

The medical waste container market in the Asia Pacific is projected to increase at a compound average growth rate (CAGR) of 7.60% from 2025 to 2034, owing to expanding healthcare infrastructure, Polaris Market Research said.

The infrastructure is expanding in China, India, and Japan, the research firm added.

Polaris Market Research said that government initiatives to improve medical waste management, such as China’s 2020 Medical Waste Management Regulations and India’s Bio-Medical Waste Management Rules, will push the region’s market growth.

It added that the rising prevalence of infectious diseases, increasing hospital admissions, and growth in medical tourism will lead to higher waste volumes and increased demand for medical waste containers in Asia.

Globally, the market size stood at $2.24b in 2024, and is projected to grow at 5.94% CAGR from 2025 to 2034 to reach a size of $3.99b.

Broken down by regions, Europe accounted for the largest share of the market in 2024 with 38.82%, amidst strict regulations in the region.

Medical waste containers that will be in demand up to 2034 include containers for chemotherapy, biohazardous waste, sharp waste, and for resource conservation and recovery, Polaris Market Research said.

Amongst the players in the market are Becton Dickinson and Co; Bemis; Bondtech Corporation; Cardinal Health Inc.; Daniels Sharpsmart Inc.; EnviroTain, LLC; GPC Medical Ltd.; Henry Schein Inc.; Medegen Medical Products; and Stericycle Inc, it added.

Meanwhile, it said that the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into medical waste containers is in early stages, as AI technologies are expected to enhance smart waste management capabilities.
