How should "high touch" be intertwined with "high tech"?

A medical doctor by training, Dr. Timothy Low was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Farrer Park Hospital in September 2015. He is responsible for the strategy and growth of the hospital in Singapore and the region.

Dr. Low has 30 years of experience in the healthcare industry spanning across pharmaceutical, medical devices and healthcare services. Prior to joining Farrer Park Hospital, Dr Low was Chief Executive Officer of Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore, where he established it as an award-winning private healthcare provider in the region. Dr. Low has also previously served in senior management positions for pharmaceutical and medical device industries in the Asia Pacific region.

With his vast experience and contributions to the industry, Dr. Low is listed in the ranks of Stanford Who’s Who.

Dr. Low graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the National University of Singapore (NUS). He is also a graduate of the NUS Graduate School of Business, Stanford University Executive Programme and Singapore Management University Asia Pacific Hospital Management Programme.

What are your previous experiences and positions held that contributed to who you are as an expert in the healthcare industry today?

Having been in healthcare for over 3 decades, helming management positions across International and local companies as well as different sectors of Pharmaceuticals and Hospitals, I have seen many aspects of healthcare. It is a deeply fascinating and fulfilling industry for me. Healthcare, more than any other affects people and lives at a such a personal and emotional level, the nuances to consider with every decision we make is unlike any other industry.

What are your key business philosophies?

Comfort for all stakeholders. Patients to enjoy unparalleled service and clinical care, staff to be given every opportunity to excel and an environment they enjoy working in. Fairness, there is no zero sum game, we look beyond the boundaries to ensure win win scenarios. Value. What do we bring to the table? By value we do not mean cheap, but that every interaction, our stakeholders gain something above their expectations.

Can you give us a glimpse of what you will talk about at the Healthcare Asia Forum?

We will be touching on technology and innovations. As the newest private tertiary acute hospital in Singapore, we must continuously innovate to find value, to improve comfort. This requires us to look toward technology. However, we are mindful that healthcare is a high touch industry, we deal with people and emotions. The marrying of high touch and high tech is part art and part science. As a hospital officially launched in March 2016, we have swept over 10 international and local awards benchmarking us amongst bigger more establish hospitals. This presentation aims to share our innovation journey in fulfilling our business philosophies. .
